Rob Wasserman Dies

Rob Wasserman, 64, bassist for RatDog, along with having collaborated with acts like Lou Reed, Van Morrison and Rickie Lee Jones, died June 29. No cause of death was given.

Wasserman released his solo album, Solo, in 1982 then played on the albums Duets and Trios, featuring acts like Reed, Jerry Garcia, Brian Wilson and Aaron Neville before eventually joining Bob Weir in RatDog, where he played until Weir formed Further with Phil Lesh.

“I can still hear the sound of his bow playing those strings unamplified and pure,” Weir said. “It’s one of the most glorious sounds I’ve ever heard, and the music and warmth he gave us will live on in the hearts of everyone he touched.”
