The Golden State Warriors hope to play future seasons in a new 18,000-seat arena in San Francisco, shown here in the latest artist rendering.

The San Francisco Chronicle said a judge on July 18 ruled that the city’s environmental review of the proposed arena was adequate, rejecting arguments it had failed to consider a number of environmental impacts.

The ruling is a setback to the Mission Bay Alliance – funded by a group of donors to University of California, San Francisco – that has filed several lawsuits to stop the project. The group contends that the proposed 18,500-seat arena would jam area streets with traffic, slowing down access to the UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay across the street from the proposed arena.

The group also says that a basketball arena in Mission Bay is at odds with the life science research and health-care facilities that have settled in the neighborhood.
