Boomtown Winter Gathering Canceled

After the death of an 18-year-old festivalgoer, and a fire that burned out more than 80 cars at Boomtown Fair (Aug. 11-14) in England, organizers have canceled their upcoming winter premiere.

While the fire was most likely caused by a lit cigarette, the death of the young woman is still being investigated. Reports say police are treating the death as “non-suspicious.”

Tickets for the first edition of Winter Gathering, which was supposed to take place Dec. 10 at the Bath and West Showground near Shepton Mallet, were originally to go on sale Aug. 18.

“We have decided to not release tickets to the Winter Gathering today,” a statement on Boomtown Fair’s website reads.

“We feel that it would not be appropriate at this time to go ahead with the event as previously planned. “Although there were many amazing things that happened at the festival last weekend, the incidents that did occur, we feel we should take some time to take stock of.

“We are also currently going through the process to follow up individually with all those affected by the fire, and feel that focusing our energy on these incidents is where it is best placed at this time.”
