Lollapalooza Berlin Good To Go

Promoter Hörstmann Unternehmensgruppe got a one-time exception permit to stage Lollapalooza in Berlin’s Treptower Park, Sept. 10-11.

The German edition of the festival successfully premiered last year at Berlin’s former airport Tempelhof. A new location had to be found because the premises are being used to shelter refugees.

Treptower Park isn’t ideal because it is located much closer to residential areas and contains a war memorial dedicated to Soviet soldiers. Organizers assured critics it would be a one-off. It was also the only location suited to host the event, for which organizers expect around 70,000 people per day to come and see RadioheadKings Of Leon and Major Lazer among others.

All in all, Festival head Fruzsina Szép was looking at 11 different sites, such as the new, still incomplete airport BER, the Karlshorst trotting course and Maifeld. None were suited to host Lollapalooza Berlin.
