Club Promoter Sexual Assault Case

A club promoter in Edmonton, Alberta, has been charged with numerous counts of sexual assault.

Matthew McKnight, a former independent consultant for Urban Sparq Hospitality, was charged in August with one count of sexual assault causing bodily harm, two counts of sexual assault and one count of unlawful confinement, according to The Canadian Press.

In September, McKnight was charged with 18 new offenses consisting of 12 counts of sexual assault, two counts of assault and four counts of unlawful confinement.

Three of the incidents allegedly occurred at McKnight’s home where he invited the women at different times from different bars to an after party.

“All 17 of the cases have similarities and all 17 complainants are linked to the hospitality industry,” Staff-Sgt. Devin Laforce told The Canadian Press. “He used that affiliation with that bar industry to target the complainants, we believe.”

McKnight is out on bail and set to appear in court Nov. 7.
