GNR Stuns Singapore

Guns N’ Roses surprised many when announcing it would do a concert in Singapore as part of next year’s world tour. The Feb. 25 show at the Changi Exhibition Centre will be the first time the veteran band has played the city-state. Many fans were discouraged by the high ticket prices, according to news site Asiaone.

Though Singapore shows by foreign artists are characteristically expensive owing to travel and accommodations costs, the GNR show seems particularly over the top, ranging from a low of S$199 ($145) to a high of S$2,063 ($1,500) for a VIP lounge seat.

Previously, the highest ticket price in Singapore was S$1,288 VIP for Madonna. When Metallica played the same venue in 2013, standard prices were as low as S$148.

Asiaone quoted several tweets from local fans who said they’d forego the concert due to the prices.

General tickets went on sale Oct. 17. So far, Singapore is the only Asian country that GNR will visit other than Japan, and promoter LAMC told Asiaone that they expect lots of fans from other Southeast Asian countries to come to Singapore for the show.

The band will also play New Zealand and Australia, where resale prices for the concerts have reached A$3,450 ($2,340).
