Who’s Coming To Penn’s Party?

Believe it or not, Beaver Stadium – the Penn State football stadium that’s been around since 1960 – will be hosting its first concert next year.

The University Park, Pa., venue is not celebrating a major renovation or anything of the sort but one small change will be bringing a yet-to-be-named superstar to the facility July 8: namely, alcohol.

The Penn State board of trustees recently allowed a liquor license for non-Penn State events at the stadium and nearby Pegula Ice Arena. In September, the arena recently hosted its first NHL preseason game ever and liquor was served.

“We had zero alcohol-related incidents,” Penn State’s Phil Esten told the Centre Daily Times. “The license also allows us to have it in controlled spaces (like suites). We have not done that this year in Beaver Stadium but we will in the future, probably.”

The college is expected to announce the headliner during a home game Nov. 5.

Unfortunately for those hard-studying young people, Pollstar does not have an inside line on who it’s going to be.  People have had to flee the country for revealing such inside information.  However, we do have our contacts, we are not above speculating, and there is the process of elimination.

For instance, the number of acts that play stadiums are plentiful – BeyoncéBruce SpringsteenU2Rolling Stones, or Taylor Swift, for instance – but many will probably be taking a break, will be someplace else or will not be touring next summer. Then there are the perennial stadium staples like Kenny Chesney, but we’re not feeling that one either.Garth Brooks?  Possibly.  And Jason Aldean is always up for a big appearance. Metallica just packed  in Minneapolis, so there’s that.

Honestly, though, we can only guess who will crash Penn’s party, but it’s nice that the crowd can drink a beer.
