Hong Kong’s Clockenflap Loses Another Act
LCD’s reason for leaving the lineup is that they want to work on recording a new album, but Die Antwoord’s reason was simply “unforeseen circumstances.”
The festival’s music director, Justin Sweeting, told the South China Morning Post, “It’s disappointing from our point of view as we had their exclusive Asian show, so it was a coup to get them.”
Stressing that the festival was really about the “overall lineup,” Sweeting added, “We have received a lot of support from booking agencies who are rallying together after our run of bad luck on this front this year, and we have received some very reassuring messages industry-wise on how important Clockenflap is for the region’s development.”
At that point more than 100 acts had been announced for the Nov. 25-27 event at Central Harbourfront, including the Chemical Brothers, Sigur Ros, George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic, Foals, Cheer Chen and Crystal Castles.
More acts were announced on Oct. 27, including M.I.A., Blood Orange and Yo La Tengo.
