More Springsteen Shows Added Down Under

After shifting 200,000 tickets in Australia for nine shows on Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s Summer ’17 Tour, the tally could rise to 270,000 after Frontier Touring announced three more shows.

A third was added at the 15,500-seater Perth Arena (Jan. 22), a second at the 30,050-capacity AAMI Park in Melbourne (Feb. 4) and a second at the 21,000-capacity Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney (Feb. 9).

No more shows will be added in these cities, Frontier emphasised. Springsteen’s 11 dates on his February 2014 Wrecking Ball Tour moved 250,000 tickets. Across the Tasman Sea in New Zealand, Boss fever is equally as forceful. An extra 1,500 tickets issued by Frontier for the Feb. 21 show in Christchurch were snapped up in two minutes after they went on sale Nov. 7.

The initial allotment for the 38,628-capacity AMI Stadium had already disappeared in an hour. Springsteen and the E-Street Band are adding only one extra date in New Zealand, at the 47,000-capacity Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland Feb. 25.

However, the Christchurch date is considered the emotional standout of the Australasian run. The show is on the eve of the sixth anniversary of the city’s earthquake. As it began rebuilding, it adopted Springsteen’s “My City Of Ruins” as an unofficial anthem. The Boss insisted that his second New Zealand show be in Christchurch, rather than any of the larger cities.
