Rained-Out Sound On Sound Acts Play Free Show

Weather caused organizers of Sound on Sound festival to order attendees to take shelter in cars or evacuate the grounds Sunday afternoon, but after a few hours the show went on as planned.
The inaugural edition of the festival was held Nov. 4-6 at Sherwood Forest Faire in McDade, Texas, outside of Austin. The first two days passed without incident, but when a thunderstorm rolled in organizers began providing notifications via Twitter. The first message communicated that weather was being closely monitored and then, when lightning struck close to the grounds, instructions went out at 3:02 p.m. to evacuate the festival grounds and seek shelter in vehicles. Eventually the storm passed and gates reopened at 5 p.m.
“It was the first time in all my years of doing this we had to do this,” festival talent buyer Graham Williams told Pollstar. “It was a crazy couple hours for us but it was fun … and it was an awesome weekend.”
