Amazon Tickets Come To America

Amazon appears to be expanding its fledgling ticketing service through a job posting at its Seattle headquarters.

Amazon Tickets is looking for a Technical Program Manager with five-plus years of experience in a related industry. The online retailer launched its ticketing service overseas last year, offering tickets to various theatre performances and the occasional pop music show.

The launch stateside wants to position Amazon as the ‘world’s premier destination for purchasing tickets,” according to one job posting, and it appears the program will be dubbed Prime Tickets, using Amazon’s Prime membership as the format for an all-inclusive price model when buying tickets.

The requirements for the TPM position suggest the applicant must be able to handle the intricacies of a massive project, but no doubt Amazon has a hard row to hoe if it is expecting to overshadow Ticketmaster, AXS, StubHub, Ticketfly and all the rest to become the world’s leader in ticketing services.

Although media outlets have suggested that Amazon wants to contend with Ticketmaster despite the modest launch, it is not known if this is rather a partnership with TM. Ticketmaster recently announced it can be built into third-party apps, developing partnerships with big brands and startups.

For instance, TM recently worked with Costco to launch CostcoTickets.com. The open platform, Ticketmaster Developer Portal, is also used by Facebook and Tidal for their ticketing services. A call to a TM representative was not returned at press time.
