Joe Satriani Announces G4 Experience 2017
Next year marks the 30th anniversary of Joe Satriani’s sophomore album, Surfing with the Alien. To celebrate, the guitarist’s G4 Experience camp will focus on the writing and recording of the LP. Of course, he’ll be performing songs from SWTA too.
The fourth installment of the G4 Experience takes place July 24-28 at Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, Calif.

“To this day, every fan conversation ends up referencing Surfing with the Alien,” Satriani says. “We thought the best way to celebrate its 30th birthday would be to devote the 2017 G4 Experience to all things Surfing. It’s such a special moment for me, and I can’t wait to see everyone there so we can relive this album together and create new memories in the process.”
Satriani is bringing along longtime collaborating and Surfing with the Alien co-producer John Cuniberti. During the evening performances he’ll be joined by the original live band during the record’s tour cycle –
Activities include daily workshops with Satriani, recording with Cuniberti, guitar maintenance sessions with Satriani’s personal guitar tech, and workshops from all-star instructors.
Don’t forget about the nightly jam sessions!
“The interaction between campers and musicians is a cornerstone of the event. That’s such a key element, which I really cherish. You’re going to get that bond,” Satriani says.
Musicians of all experience levels are welcome.
