RNB Fridays Live Concept A Hit
The series was developed in a partnership by Frontier Touring and national radio network Southern Cross Austereo’s Hit Network. Selling out within days, a total of 50,000 in five capital cities saw a 10-artist bill featuring Nelly, TLC, Mya, 112, Montell Jordan, Blackstreet, Blu Cantrell, Dante Thomas, Fatman Scoop, Kevin Lyttle and DJ Horizon.
The series will return in 2017, the radio network confirmed.
The two companies had earlier partnered to extend Hit Network’s high-rating RNB Fridays show to the weekly RNB Fridays Nightclub. That too drew substantial crowds to its venues in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
The concert series was also strong on social media, reaching 3.6 million Facebook users, with 124,000 Facebook actions and 280,000 video views. The 11,293-person draw at the Nov. 25 Melbourne show at Hisense Arena saw Frontier simultaneously make attendance records for all four Melbourne & Olympic Parks venues.
These were Ed Sheeran’s 34,296 at AAMI Park (Dec. 6, 2015), Justin Timberlake’s 16,183 at Rod Laver Arena (Nov. 18, 2007) and Disturbed’s 7,133 at Margaret Court Arena (Nov. 12, 2016).
Frontier Touring managing director Michael Gudinski observed, “We pride ourselves at Frontier on delivering the world’s best entertainment to Australia. It is a huge achievement to hold the four records across these great Melbourne venues and is testament to the quality of the artists involved.”
