At The Drive-In Returns To The Road

At The Drive-In has planned just over a week’s worth of North American gigs next year to showcase tunes off the group’s first new album in more than 15 years.

The first new gig is March 20 at  in Washington, D.C. The run then moves to New York, Boston and Detroit before wrapping up March 29 in Toronto.

The band broke up in 2001 and had a brief run of reunion shows in 2012 before finally getting together for a lengthy international tour this year. At The Drive-In’s 2016 schedule included performances in North America, Europe, Australia and a few Asian countries.

There were a few canceled gigs this year because frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala was having issues with his voice.

On Thursday, At The Drive-In released a new song, “Governed by Contagions,” which will be part of an album to come sometime next year.

The band is mostly maintaining it membership from 2001, except former guitarist, vocalist and keyboardist Jim Ward is no longer in the group. He has been replaced by newcomer Keeley Davis, who joins vocalist Bixler-Zavala, guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, bassist Paul Hinojos and drummer Tony Hajjar.  

While ATDI was broken up, its former members participated in other projects like De Facto, The Mars Volta and Sparta.
