Arena Proposed For Silver Spring Md.

Silver Spring, Md., home to Live Nation’s 2,000-capacity Fillmore Silver Spring, may soon be home to a 5,000-seat arena as well. 

Montgomery County wants to build the venue atop two parking garages near Silver Spring Metro station or in place of the garages if they are razed, according to the Washington Post.

The county’s request says the arena needs to be designed to accommodate one or more minor league sports teams “with a semi-professional hockey organization as the preferred anchor tenant.”

The project would complement the Strathmore arts center and the Marriott Hotel and conference Center in North Bethesda, a county exec told the paper, adding that it would be home to high school graduations, which are currently held at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington.

The two venues would be less than a half-mile apart.
