HKS To Design Rangers Stadium

Architecture firm HKS has been picked to design a $1 billion, retractable-roof stadium for MLB’s Texas Rangers in Arlington.

Rangers officials announced Jan. 5 the selection of HKS, which also was the architect for the team’s current home at the 49,200-capacity Globe Life Park.

The new ballpark financing is a public-private partnership between the Rangers and the city. Arlington residents voted in November to approve the extension of a half-cent sales tax, a 2 percent hotel-occupancy tax and 5 percent car-rental tax for the project.

That revenue previously went to pay down Arlington’s $155 million debt on its share of the cost for the 80,000-capacity AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

The stadium is tentatively scheduled for completion by the 2020 MLB season.
