Blaisdell Center To Honor Tom Moffatt

The Honolulu City Council passed a resolution Jan. 25 to name a portion of the Neal S. Blaisdell Center complex in memory of late concert promoter Tom Moffatt.

Moffatt, a major player in Hawaii’s entertainment industry for decades, died of prostate cancer Dec. 12. The city is planning a major overhaul of the center that includes a designated area to carry the longtime promoter’s name, according to KHON-TV.

The resolution states that Moffatt promoted concerts for artists including Michael and Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, and the Neal S. Blaisdell Center as well as headed two record labels and was the islands’ most prominent rock’n’roll DJ in the 1960s.
