Art Garfunkel Ready For His Close-Up

With a memoir of his life as an artist forthcoming, Art Garfunkel has booked North American and European performances into May to share music and stories from his life.

The “In Close-Up Tour” opened earlier this month in the Midwest, and the next stop on that trek is Fort Pierce, Fla., Feb. 2. He spends a couple weeks in February overseas in France and Italy, before returning Feb. 25 for a show on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.

Garfunkel has mostly regional runs booked and his last scheduled show is in California’s Rohnert Park on May 14, although more dates will be announced soon.

During the shows he will be playing tunes he worked on as half of Simon & Garfunkel, songs from his solo career and covers from some of his favorite peers.

In a review of one of the performances, Twin Cities Arts wrote “Garfunkel showed himself to be an artist of note, a singer whose voice can still resonate extraordinary songs and a human being reflecting on the rather unique and intense experiences that make up his life.”

The memoir, titled “What Is It All But Luminous (Notes From An Underground Man)” will be released Sept. 26 by Alfred A. Knopf. The book is an exploration of Garfunkel’s early life, his work as a musician and actor, and his own “poetic ruminations on love, loss and fatherhood.”
