S.C. Amphitheater Primed For Opener

A new outdoor venue boasting a maximum capacity of 30,000 will open in South Carolina in May.

Yonder Field in Orangeburg County, less than an hour from both Charleston and Columbia, promises to combine amphitheater programming with the festival experience.

The entire space covers more than 200 acres of land and will house two stages, which should allow versatile use for shows of various sizes. Plans also include a special VIP seating area by the main stage that can seat up to 1,000.

The massive amount of space will also accommodate parking and tailgating for 15,000 vehicles. “[Big acts] usually hit Charlotte and Atlanta and skip South Carolina, but now they have somewhere to come and it’s a first class venue,” Stacie Darr White, president and GM of Yonder Field, told WTAT-TV.

“Obviously just based on the demographic of the market we are going to do a lot of country music, but we are really working hard to make sure that we pull in other genres because we want to feed every taste in terms of the musical spectrum.” The impact of the new shed will be felt, the venue’s owners told WYFF-TV.

It is projected to bring 300-400 seasonal jobs and contribute $40 million to $50 million to the local economy.
