Cockfighting Arena To Be Demolished

Big Blues Sportsman’s Club in McDowell, Ky., which has been hosting illegal cockfights for more than 20 years, will be torn down.

The owners, senior citizens Shirley Ray Slone and Vernon Kelly Slone of Abingdon, Va., pled guilty to organizing illegal cockfighting and gambling in U.S. District Court on March 21.

The pair coughed up $100,000 and will pay for the demolition of their facility. 

The Sportsman’s Club reportedly had 5,000 members, featured arena-style seating with multiple fighting pits, and a restaurant. It was raided by law enforcement in 2014, the Herald Courier reported.
