Foo Fighters will play Summer Sonic, which will take place simultaneously in Tokyo and Osaka Aug. 19-20. Several music-related blogs expressed relief that the festival would have such a major act.
Calvin Harris is the other headliner and, while he is a big draw in Japan, regular Summer Sonic attendees tend to expect an artist of a more rock-like pedigree.
Other foreign acts added to the roster were Blood Orange, Suchmos, Pond and Whitney.
The Fuji Rock Festival, which takes place at the Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata Prefecture July 28-30, announced its third headliner last week, as well. Gorillaz will be play the Green Stage on Friday night.
Other new acts added to the list were Arca, Death Grips, Jet, Ron Sexsmith, Trombone Shorty, and the Golden Cups, a very popular Japanese “group sounds” band from the ’60s that hasn’t played together in years.
