Coachella Smokes Out Weed Farm

Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival has gone hard to protect its good name, and this time is putting a stop to a marijuana farm’s “Coachella Blend” pre-rolled joints designed specifically for use at the mammoth California desert festival.

Santa Barbara-based Lowell Farms announced the limited edition ganja would be available exclusively through its Palm Springs Safe Access dispensary, which is about 20 miles from the Indio, Calif., festival grounds.

But AEG Presents, which runs the festival with Goldenvoice, sent Lowell a cease and desist notice.

“AEG has demanded Lowell Farms remove any posts tagged #Coachella and to cease using the tag,” the company told the Los Angeles Times. “Lowell Farms has no desire to get into a prolonged battle with such an established and well funded company, however they are working to find a creative solution to deliver this special blend to festival goers.”

Lowell offered to be the first official cannabis sponsor of the festival but hadn’t heard back from organizers, according to the Times.

The farm will rename the cannabis blend #NotChilla, which hopefully won’t harsh anyone’s mellow.

Just last month a cease-and-desist went out to retailer Urban Outfitters for using Coachella branding on its products.
