Betting On The Raiders

Fans at Las Vegas Raiders home games may be legally permitted to gamble via cell phone from within the NFL team’s new stadium planned for 2020.

While the team’s lease agreement with the Las Vegas Stadium Authority prohibits “any gaming or gambling, the maintaining or operating of a gaming establishment and/or any sports wagering or any wagering on racing or other non-sports events,” it does not specifically block access to mobile sports betting apps by fans attending football games.

For years fans have been able to place wagers on the mobile sports apps, which are largely operated by regulated Vegas sportsbooks, anywhere within state lines. However, geofencing technology that blocks access to certain apps or data in specific locations is possible, and the NFL could convince gaming officials to amend the conditional lease agreement’s language.

The NFL said in a statement to ESPN that the Raiders will need to abide by the league’s rules, but did not specify.
