Ben Folds Announces ‘Paper Airplane Request Tour’
Get your paper airplanes ready because Ben Folds is gearing up for a solo tour.
The title of the August-November outing, “Paper Airplane Request Tour,” should be taken literally.
“Taking paper airplane requests from fans is fun, and gives everyone in the room a chance to request what they’d like to hear,” Folds said. “The first time I brought up airplane requests was when I tweeted before a show: ‘If you have a song you want me to play, then write it down on a piece of paper and launch it as a paper airplane after I give the countdown.’ The response was incredible, with waves of paper airplanes flying form the audience on to the stage right on cue.”
The run of North American gigs starts Aug. 27 in Lawrence, Kan., at Liberty Hall.
The tour spans across the U.S., with stops in Tulsa, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, Seattle, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Detroit, Chicago, Nashville and St. Louis. Folds has also booked a few nights in Canada: Vancouver’s Vogue Theatre Sept. 30 and Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre Oct. 24. The “Paper Airplane” fun ends with a few nights in Florida, concluding Nov. 12 at Miami’s Olympia Theatre.
Fans can expect the setlist to include tunes from throughout Fold’s career. The talented singer/songwriter/composer has been making music for over three decades, with a mix of rock, power pop, jazz and classical, from his solo albums to work with Ben Folds Five to collaborations with symphonies, yMusic, Sara Bareilles and William Shatner.
Folds is planning to head back into the studio in 2018.
An artist presale begins June 14 at 10 a.m. Tickets go on sale to the general public June 16 at 10 a.m. All times local.
