Live Nation Electronic Asia will “harness Live Nation’s expertise in all aspects of event production and promotion to meet the region’s rising demand for electronic dance music,” according to the announcement.
The company says Asia, with 60 percent of the world’s population and a surging interest in electronic music, is ripe for expanded electronic events and festivals.
The first bill from Live Nation Electronic Asia will be an eight-date Tiësto tour of China, which kicks off in Shanghai in October.
The new office will also handle Creamfields events in Hong Kong (Dec. 15-16) and Taipei, Taiwan (Dec. 17). Jim Wong, managing director of Live Nation Electronic Asia, stated, “I am excited to join Live Nation, especially considering the enormous potential this new venture creates for electronic music fans and artists.”
Live Nation President of International and Emerging Markets Alan Ridgeway said: “Combining Jim’s experience with Live Nation’s network and resources allows us to accelerate our presence in this genre, giving fans even more electronic music performances through both concerts and festivals.”
Wong is a veteran promoter in Mainland China and Hong Kong, where he promoted and booked more than 500 acts over the past three years. Live Nation operates across 10 markets in Asia including China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, The Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
