Branden Holder and Brent Doster, co-founders of MadCo Entertainment, signed a lease-to-own the venue in July.

Unlike past efforts to restore the theatre as a historical venue, all of which have have failed, Holder and Doster plan to turn it into a live entertainment spot, while still preserving its historical aspects.

The duo wants the venue to be a destination for comedians and musicians, in addition to offering screenings of classic movies and theme nights. They also plan for the theatre to feature a tap room which exclusively serves Indiana brewed-beers.

Renovation has already begun, including the removal of the carpet and adhesive from the theatre’s floors. The project still needs around $50,000 worth of renovation before its doors are ready to open.

The entrepreneurs began a crowdfunding page to speed the process along, offering memorabilia as a thank you to those who donate.

They plan on slowly opening the venue in phases. Over the next month, the duo will tentatively book musicians to play opening shows for the fall. Plans for a Halloween costume night and a New Year’s Eve bash are also in the works.

Holder and Foster hope to completely open the theater by December or the beginning of 2018.
