The 17-year old arena, which is owned by the city and operated by SMG, could potentially receive more than $7 million in renovations if the Bossier City Council approves an ordinance that would allow for borrowing funds, according to Shreveport Times.
City Director of Finance Stacie Fernandez told the paper that SMG is advising city officials on the upgrades.
“They’re the ones that said, ‘These are the things we’re going to need to be done to keep the building vibrant,’” Fernandez told the Shreveport Times. “They would like to replace the marquee with an LED system. They want to do some more things that would increase the security of the building, and a new sound system. These are wish list items.”
City council members approved a $3 “restoration fee” to each ticket sold for arena events to help pay for the upgrades. Fernandez said the fee could rake in an estimated $500,000 each year.
The city plans on borrowing up to $10 million from the Louisiana Local Government Facilities and Community Development Authority and pay the money back with revenue earned from the restoration fee.
