– Gill Coliseum

Officials at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., are considering changing the name of four buildings on campus, including Gill Coliseum, named after former OSU men’s basketball coach Amory “Slatts” Gill.

Two University professors looked into the matter and wrote a report concluding that “we have no evidence that Gill made derogatory statements about African Americans or opposed having black players on the OSU basketball team.”

Despite the lack of direct evidence, critics note that there was only one black player on Gill’s team throughout his tenure, a walk-on who did not play the full season.

A public discussion on the matter was scheduled to be held on campus Oct. 26.
