When AEG Presents/Goldenvoice announced that it had secured the rights to exclusively promote events in London’s Victoria Park for the next five years, it meant that competing events had to move.
It is now clear that Brockwell Park in the south of London will host all of the affected major events, including Global’s Field Day on June 1-3, as well as Live Nation/Mama Festivals’ Lovebox July 13-14, and Citadel July 15.
“Nothing stays the same forever, and after thirteen very happy years in East London, it’s time to open a new, ever more colorful chapter in our history as we go back to our South London roots and make our new home in beautiful Brockwell Park,” said Lovebox founder Jools Butterfield.
The first edition of Lovebox took place in Clapham Common in 2002. Over the years, it developed in to a “London institution,” according to Butterfield, who added, “right now there is nowhere more exciting for us to be than woven into the rich cultural and musical tapestry of Brixton and its surrounds.”
Commenting on Citadel, Mama Festivals CEO Rory Bett said it was “an honor for us to work in the beautifully situated Brockwell Park and delve into the inspiring music, art and culture flowing from South London.”
He doesn’t think the festival’s “loyal following of music fans of all ages, who love nothing more than the Sunday style and revelry that the show has become famous for” will mind journeying to a new location.
None of the festivals have announced lineups so far.
The festivals’ former London site, Victoria Park, is in the hands of AEG for the coming five years.
AEG Presents, which trades as Goldenvoice in the UK, won a tender process for events in the park, and will promote a new festival called All Points East, followed by a headline-show weekend between May 25 and June 3.
LCD Soundsystem, Björk and The xx have been announced as headliners.
