The news was confirmed on matchbox twenty’s Facebook page and The Browning Group’s website, though cause of death was not shared.
“If a man can be measured by the amount of people he leaves behind who will think about him, then he was a giant,” matchbox twenty wrote on its Facebook page. “To say he will be missed doesn’t come close.”
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to offer condolences are being asked to donate to the Sidewalk Angels Foundation.
“I’m writing with an indescribably heavy heart to say that our friend, our brother, Jason Browning passed away yesterday,” Rob Thomas wrote Dec. 27. “He was a giant walking and talking heart that Mari and I have spent the last 19 years discovering life with.”
According to the description from matchbox twenty’s post, Browning started working with the band as security and gradually worked his way to becoming Thomas’s day-to-day manager and tour manager for the band, and to working with Carlos Santana, Linkin Park and Stone Temple Pilots.
“Jason’s legacy will live on through all that he’s mentored and trained up in the industry,” Jessicha Suchter of The Browning Group told Pollstar. “We couldn’t be prouder to have called him a friend.”
He founded The Browning Group, which “specializes in management, touring and festivals, event and meeting production, staffing and consulting,” in 1998.
