Hip-hop fans are in for a treat as The Roots revealed the lineup for the 11th annual Roots Picnic.
Dave Chappelle is hosting the festival, which is set for June 2 at Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing in the groups hometown of Philadelphia. The lineup boasts
Black Thought and J. Period are also bringing back their “live mixtape” presentation with guests Fabulous and Jadakiss.
Tickets go on sale Feb. 16.
The Roots played a handful of headlining dates last year, with its highest-grossing show taking place at the McMenamins Edgefield Amphitheater in Troutdale, Ore., which sold 4,650 tickets and $276,675 grossed, according to Pollstar’s boxoffice reports.
Dave Chappelle recently won the award for Best Comedy Tour at the Pollstar Live! Conference and placed No. 86 on Pollstar’s Year End Top 200 North American Tours chart with 173,956 tickets sold and more than $17.5 million grossed. Last year’s highlight was a star-studded residency at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, with appearances from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Chance The Rapper and Erykah Badu. The Roots also joined Chappelle on the residency, which ran Aug. 1 through Aug. 24 and reported 93,715 tickets sold and $11.5 million grossed.
