Springsteen Christens Asbury Lanes Reopening; Portugal. The Man, Tangiers Blues Band Join At N.J. Landmark

kicks off the Asbury Lanes reopening with a bang June 18.

The newly opened ‘60s bowling alley turned music venue Asbury Lanes, operated by The Bowery Presents, celebrated the New Jersey venue’s transformation with a June 18 reopening featuring performances by hometown legend Bruce Springsteen, Portugal. The Man, a DJ set by Questlove and celebrity attendees like movie star Hugh Jackman.
The star-studded affair kicked off the renovated venue’s programming, handpicked by AEG Presents subsidiary The Bowery Presents, with upcoming shows by Lupe Fiasco, Cold War Kids, The Hold Steady and more.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy greeted the crowd, calling out Asbury Park’s renaissance and naming the destination as one of the “great New Jersey communities.” 
After performances from Portugal. The Man and Tangiers Blues Band, the night ended with an afterparty at The Asbury Hotel’s lobby, featuring DJ sets by the Roots’ Questlove.
Asbury Lanes’ renovation is part of a multibillion-dollar redevelopment of Asbury Park by  investment company iStar.  The revamp includes exclusive talent buying from The Bowery Presents, a custom-built sound system by Clair Brothers and lighting from Nashville-based Cour Design. 
“Everyone has an Asbury Lanes story,” stated David Bowd of Salt Hotels, which will operate the Lanes. “Emotions ran higher with this project than with anything we’ve undertaken. What mattered to them matter to us: keeping the soul of this incredible venue while making changes necessary to guarantee its figure.” The venue had faced closure or demolition following a half-century of use, with structural and mechanical issues plaguing the facility.
The Lanes’ reinvented stage sees platforms covering the bowling lanes during performances allowing for a capacity of 746, doubling its former limit, according to an announcement.  
With a $125,000 donation from iStar, the opening-night event supported the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County – a private non-profit organization empowering youth. 
New York City-based concert promoter The Bowery Presents owns or operates venues along the East Coast including the new Brooklyn Steel, Terminal 5 in New York City, Electric Factory in Philadelphia, and Rams Head Live in Baltimore. Promoter Jim Glancy has won multiple Pollstar Awards.
