Paul Kemsley Expands Management Duties To Include Culture Club
Alvin Ho / LAMC Productions – Culture Club
Culture Club plays The Star Theatre At The Star PAC in Singapore Dec. 11.
Nixxi Entertainment founder Paul Kemsley is now managing Culture Club, in addition to frontman Boy George.
Kemsley has been managing the English vocalist since 2014. During the past few years Kemsley has helped open new avenues for George including a multi-season role as a coach on “The Voice Australia” and numerous television cameos on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”
Culture Club spent the past several months on the road playing headline dates across the U.S., as well as sharing a co-bill with The B-52’s.
“The tour is epic,” Kemsley told Pollstar. “The fans, who are coming in the thousands, are seeing the incredible musicality of this iconic band who can really play. We mix the show up with old and new songs, borrowed and blue!”
He added, “George is engaging and funny and his voice is better now than it’s ever been – the crowds are loving it and standing and dancing through the entire 90-minute set.”
Up next for Culture Club and The B-52’s is Wednesday’s show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Culture Club has a few more U.S. gigs in October, followed by a run of dates in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Recent reports submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice department include Culture Club’s sold-out July 31 show at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, N.J., that grossed $137,512. Earlier in the month Culture Club and The B-52’s played Boston’s Wang Theatre – Boch Center July 27, selling 3,366 tickets (96 percent capacity) and grossing $226,720.
Culture Club is gearing up to release its first new album in nearly 20 years. Life is due out Oct. 26 as the follow-up to 1999’s Don’t Mind If I Do. Check out the audio for the title track below.
“John Lennon said ‘Life is what happens while you are busy doing other things,’ but sometimes you have to stop and look with sadness and pride at what you have done and created in your own life and value the rich complexity of it!” Boy George said in a statement.
“As the lyricist of ‘Life’ I wanted to express something truthful, honest and bare while carrying an uplifting message of hope. It’s my story but it’s a story so many people will resonate with. A story of recovery, transformation and the start of a brand new journey which has already brought Culture Club well deserved accolades. It’s a song about second chances and new beginnings, enlightenment, spiritual growth and personal redemption.”
