The X Games announced the music programming for its summer 2019 installment on Thursday. From Aug. 1 to 4, performers will descend on the GEICO Music Stage at Minneapolis’ The Armory.
The booked artists run the stylistic gamut, from hip-hop heavyweights Wu-Tang Clan to production powerhouse Diplo to alt-rock staples Incubus. The lineup also includes garage-rockers SWMRS, rapper P.O.S., surf-rock outfit The Blind Shake and Chevy Metal, the cover band led by Taylor Hawkins and Wiley Hodgen of Foo Fighters.
The X Games debuted in Minneapolis in 2017 and added music programming this year, booking Kaskade, Brother Ali, Ice Cube and Zedd for the July event.
“The main event is the sports competition, that’s the backbone, but the music is very much an integral part for both the athletes and our guests,” X Games Director of Music and Cultural Development Jennifer Rieber told Pollstar in July.  “It’s a big piece of the experience, part of an overall entertainment offering. The action sports community is very much dialed into music, art, fashion and film, and edgy in their tastes.”
Rieber added that the programming “offers something extra, an added value that fits in nicely with the main event.”
