Kam Franklin Of The Suffers Joins HeadCount’s Board Of Directors
HeadCount, the nonprofit promoting civic participation that was recently highlighted at Pollstar Live!, has appointed Kam Franklin of The Suffers as the first female musician on its Board of Directors.
“I’m very pleased to be joining the HeadCount board,” said Kam. “I look forward to working alongside some of the most knowledgeable individuals in the music industry to further the HeadCount mission of promoting participation in democracy.”
HeadCount has registered 500,000 voters since 2004 and had 24,000 volunteers over that period. The nonprofit broke all kinds of its records while promoting engagement in the 2018 election, coming on tour with Drake, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Panic! At The Disco, Odesza, and Dead & Company. It also had a presence at lots of North American festivals.
Co-founder and executive director Andy Bernstein appeared on the panel “Voting In Concert: How Promoters, Artists and You Can Make Political & Social Change” at Pollstar Live! 2019, where panelists discussed how the music industry is increasingly reaching into arenas of social and political change.
Regarding the addition of Franklin, Bernstein: “Kam Franklin is a very important addition to our Board of Directors,” said Bernstein, HeadCount’s co-founder and executive director. “I first met Kam on our The Future Is Voting college tour last fall, and knew right away that she could have a tremendous positive impact on our organization.”
The board now includes Bob Weir, John McCrea of Cake, and Marc Brownstein of The Disco Biscuits.
