FYG U Music + Tech: Free Multi-College Festival Offers Music, Esports, Career Guidance
– FYG U Music + Tech
Florida State April 5
Big Noise Live, Find Your Grind and Universal Music Group’s UMusic Experience and have put together the FYG U Music + Tech Festival, presented by Prime Student, which is bringing music, esports, panels and more to major universities across the country.
The free, on-campus festival for college students will feature major music artists, such as when Trippie Redd and Allison Wonderland played its first events in Florida State and Texas State in April, and will hit University of Oregon May 11 with Lil Yachty, Blackbear, Half The Animal and Malachi.

Ten universities are planned for this year, according to Big Noise Live senior VP of events and partnerships Brian Rucker, who says FYG U Music + Tech is filling a much-needed space in the college market.
“Obviously, college students go to festivals but we’re developing a lifestyle and music festival that hits the core passions of college students and bringing it to their campus,” Rucker said. “Right now a national platform like that doesn’t exist.”
Admission is free for students from any college, and Fall dates and lineup will be announced soon.
Along with the music, FYG U attendees can also compete onsite in a 96-person esports competition, while student musicians show off their talents on the showcase stage for a chance to perform live on the main stage.
Another big part of the event is Find Your Grind, which was started by Big Noise Records CEO and his wife to help underprivileged youth find career paths through their interests. FYG U was a way for the organization to reach the college student body. “They speak to today’s students in a way many educational platforms just don’t know how to do,” Rucker said.
Although challenges exist when bringing private events to college campuses, with various programming boards, student groups, varying levels of experience and scheduling issues, Rucker says FYG U gets their attention.
“Our compelling offer is we’re bringing a professionally produced music and lifestyle festival to your campus, at no cost to you, and free to the students,” he said. “Not only that, our arms are wide open in terms of integrating all the campus groups – the programming committees, the campus promoters, and incorporating them into our festival. we want to turn each festival on that campus into something that feels like its own festival. it can’t just be cookie cutter.”
FYG U’s presenting sponsor, Prime Student, will bring multiple experiences centered around music, gaming, tech, and education for students to enjoy throughout the festival. Prime Student offers college students the best of shopping and entertainment from Amazon for 50% off the regular cost of Prime membership. At the festival, Prime Student members will also have the opportunity to gain VIP access to the Prime Student lounge as well as a VIP viewing area of the stage. At the event, students can also enjoy the latest Amazon Original series and movies at the Prime Video space and learn about Amazon Web Services’ cloud computing and machine learning services through the AWS Educate program. Students can learn more at www.amazon.com/joinstudent.
FYG U attendees can also compete onsite in a 96-person esports competition, while student musicians show off their talents on the showcase stage for a chance to perform live on the main stage.
With UMG’s Umusic Experience on board, artists on the label’s imprints including Republic, Interscope and Motown will have center stage, and UMG will lend executives and artists for the speaking and speaking elements.
“UMUSIC Experience creates opportunities to discover new artists while educating students about our ever-changing industry,” said Todd Goodwin, SVP College, Lifestyle and Experiential Marketing, UMG.
