GRAMMY nominated, multi-platinum singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes kicks off the North American leg of his arena and stadium tour on June 12 to a sold-out crowd at Moda Center in Portland, Ore.
As he continues his massive worldwide tour, Shawn Mendes has announced the establishment of The Shawn Mendes Foundation to support causes related to children’s healthcare, sustainability, mental health, wellness, human rights, anti-bullying, education and more. At the time of its establishment the foundation has already raised more than $1 million through partnerships and donations.
This foundation’s mission is to encourage young people to learn alongside him about issues they care about and to find ways for them to take action. Its first two campaigns will be collaborations with SickKids – a Toronto-based institution dedicated to advancing children’s health through the integration of patient care, research and education – and REVERB – which works on environmental and social action while promoting sustainable practices in the music industry. Both organizations will benefit from the initial funds raised for TSMF.
“I’m so excited to launch The Shawn Mendes Foundation. For a long time, I’ve wanted to find a way to amplify the causes that my fans & I care deeply about, and to help make the voices of our generation heard,” Mendes said in a statement. “My goal in launching the foundation is to work alongside my fans, and do everything I can to help provide them with a platform that inspires positive change, and empowers young change-makers.”
Mendes is certainly going to have plenty of opportunities to introduce his fans to his foundation, as he has shows booked in North America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and South America through the remainder of 2019.
He’s been doing big business, bringing in more than $1 million grosses in Nashville; Detroit; and Washington, D.C., in this month alone, and more than $2 million over two nights at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center Aug. 23-24.
Mendes and REVERB have already collaborated to eliminate more than 70,000 plastic bottles from his tour. The artist has also raised funds to offset the carbon footprint of his tour with Flow Water.
REVERB’s Paige Roth spoke to Pollstar earlier this year, discussing the various ways the live industry can incorporate more sustainable practices.
