KAABOO Festival Sells Out, Moving To San Diego’s Petco Park For 2020
Alive Coverage – KAABOO Del Mar 2019
KAABOO, the fifth-year “elevated” festival that started in the San Diego suburb of Del Mar in 2015, is moving to Petco Park in downtown San Diego for 2020 after selling out all day passes for 2019.
“As the KAABOO brand and our live event properties continue to grow and evolve, it’s imperative that we continue to deliver an unparalleled experience for our guests by holding KAABOO in a world-class venue with exceptional room for growth,” Jason Felts, KAABOO managing partner, says during announcement at the festival Sept. 15 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
The San Diego Padres have reached a multi-year agreement with the event, which will take place Sept 18-20 in the downtown baseball stadium next year and be known as KAABOO San Diego.
“As part of the continued expansion of our concert and events lineup, we are extremely excited to welcome one of the largest and most successful festival experiences in the country, KAABOO San Diego, to Petco Park,” said Erik Greupner, Padres president of business operations. “Our venue and the downtown Ballpark District offer the perfect setting for an event of this magnitude and further establishes Petco Park as the premier entertainment destination in Southern California. We look forward to hosting an unforgettable and amazing weekend in the heart of downtown.”
KAABOO San Diego will make use of various areas inside of, and surrounding the perimeter of, Petco Park, including the playing field, Sycuan Stage at the Park, Lexus Premier Lot, and the Tailgate Lot, continuing KAABOO’s “five senses” focus on music, comedy, culinary, art and comedic experiences such as this year’s top talent including Mumford & Sons, Kings of Leon, Dave Matthews Band and comedians Bert Kreishner, Wayne Brady, Kevin Smith and many others.
The festival has hosted major talent in its five years, including one of Tom Petty’s final performances as well as a rare festival performance from Pink ahead of her monster Beautiful Trauma tour, and has expanded to multiple markets including KAABOO Cayman (although it won’t return for 2020) and KAABOO Texas at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, in collaboration with the NFL team’s owner Jerry Jones.
Highlights of KAABOO Del Mar 2019, Sept. 13-15, which concludes tonight with Mumford & Sons, includes a two-hour set with Dave Matthews Band Saturday night, and a surprise collaboration between comedian Bob Saget and eight-piece roots rock band The Revivalists Sunday. This year’s sellout was around 40,000 tickets per day, sources tell Pollstar.
