Rentalcars.com co-founder Laurence Marlor has joined U.K. event and ticket search engine TickX as chairman to drive the company’s growth.

After helping to build Rentalcars.com from its Manchester HQ into a leading car rental company in the world, with more than 60,000 locations worldwide, Marlor sold it to the Booking Holdings (formerly Priceline) in 2010 for some £170 million ($218 million).
He next became non-executive director at Goldcar, supporting the B2C development and contributing to its acquisition by Europcar for over £500 million ($642 million).
He is also non-executive director and investor at Sykes Cottages, which recently got acquired by Vitruvian Partners, former investors in Skyscanner and JustEat, for £375 million ($481 million).
TickX assists fans in finding and buying tickets by comparing more than 100 ticket selling platforms, including Ticketmaster, Skiddle and Eventbrite – similar to what Skyscanner does for flights or trivago does for hotels.
With Marlor on board, the company believes it is poised to develop its “global customer acquisition strategy.”
More than 2.5 million people used TickX in 2018, and the company believes it will double that number by the end of the year.
Steve Pearce and Sam Coley founded TickX in the U.K. in Septmber 2015. After turning down offers of £75,000 on BBC’s investment show “Dragons’ Den” in 2016, they announced a funding round of £750,000 led by 24Haymarket in February 2017.
Launches in Ireland, Spain and the Netherlands followed.
Pearce and Coley secured investment of £3 million ($3.9 million) from venture capital firms BGF Ventures and 24Haymarket in March 2018, which was invested in growing the team and developing its aggregation technology.
Pearce and Coley are named on Forbes most recent European 30 Under 30 list in the category “Retail & Ecommerce.”
