Pollstar Impact NextGen: Sam Rogers
Director of Live Production, Spotify
Age: 35
Favorite Show in 2019: Who We Be Live, featuring Aitch, Bugzy Malone, Tion Wayne, and Doja Cat, among others, at the O2 Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, England.
Sam Rogers works on the team that produces off-platform extensions of the Spotify brand via live concerts and promotes shows that both cater to the tastes of Spotify users regionally and that align with the goals of the company. Some of his career highlights revolved around large scale festivals and stadium site builds, including supporting Kenny Chesney and the MTG team on their summer stadium tours, the conceptualization and execution of Kaskade’s first SunSoaked Festival in Long Beach, and 30 days in Mumbai for Global Citizen Festival India.
For Rogers, there is “no greater sense of accomplishment than being the first person on site for the mark out and the last person out the door waving goodbye after a successful close-out. You see the whole picture from start to finish, knowing where every dollar is spent, and can operate throughout the project with a context of how best to support the many teams involved.
Plus, you almost always get a nice tan and some exercise in the process.”
Asked to look into the crystal ball for us, Rogers said: “I believe there is still a harmonic convergence on the horizon between live and tech that will usher in a higher quality experience for fans, and which can be served up to a far more concentrated and interested fanbase in the process. Reading about geo-targeted listening patterns and open ledger ticketing solutions is just the start to the next wave of innovation in the live event industry.”
