Booking any club with a slate of shows nearly every night of the year would be challenging for anyone, let alone someone not yet 30 booking one of the most iconic clubs in the history of live music. 

“There simply aren’t enough dates open when compared to the artists you want to book,” says Jen Hass who buys talent for Washington D.C.’s storied 9:30 Club as well as nearby Lincoln Theatre. 

But if she had her way, there’d be more days in a year. “April/May and September/October in particular are always nuts,” she says, “which leads to a big game of ‘booking Tetris.’ I’m very grateful for the agents who understand what we do and work with me on avails and shifting things around.” 

Hass boasts of the growth opportunities IMP’s properties offer artists. “We’re not in the business of throwing a bunch of money at someone and just hoping the bar does well. It all comes down to building each individual act in the best possible way.”
