Sophie Lobl wears a couple of hats: She’s a talent buyer for C3 Presents festivals, which involves managing the talent grid and budget and buying talent, and Lobl also manages the Bonnaroo “campground experiences,” which involves both buying talent and managing the activations in the Bonnaroo campgrounds.
Being a part of the Bonnaroo “revamp” and bringing new curated experiences to the campgrounds is among Lobl’s 2019 highlights, as was launching Lollapalooza Stockholm. Lobl said booking bands in general is a challenge. “It can be incredibly nerve wracking each time and often a gamble and we can butt heads with our friends that are agents that may disagree with us on an act’s size or price. I don’t know that I have figured how to find the process less stressful. I guess we handle it by trying to trust ourselves more and with the great advice and help of colleagues. We have a great team at C3!”
Lobl said C3 Presents co-founder Charles Attal was her mentor: “He really saw something in me when I was an assistant at WME and really is the reason I am doing the job I am today.”
Her advice to people who want to set foot in the business: “Work your bum off and be nice to everyone. I have so many friends that were interns or assistants with me that are now managers or agents I work with every day. You never know who will end up in different places or what someone else is going through.”
