Stefan Lohmann, independent talent buyer and booking agent from Germany, has published a sustainability rider plus a sustainability checklist for the event and touring industry.

The rider revolves around three pillars of sustainability: environmental protection (avoiding pollution), social justice (considering future generations) and economic efficiency (reduced costs through conscientious use of resources).
An accompanying sustainability checklist allows live professionals to tick off a total of 13 guiding principles that will make sure their events are organized in an environmentally friendly way.
The checklist covers points like CO2 emissions and offset, the environmentally friendly arrival of attendees/green ticketing, increase of energy efficiency and use of renewable resources, sustainable purchasing, use and recycling, as well as tips on what food and beverages to offer.
It furthermore explains how to avoid plastic, reduce water consumption and offers practical suggestions, like using local accommodation and transport, and avoiding unnecessary printing.
The entire checklist can be downloaded on a dedicated website, which Lohmann plans on turning into a database and search engine that gives event organizers quick access to all sustainable suppliers.
Sustainability has been a matter close to Lohmann’s heart for many years now. He’s providing the German Sustainability Award with musical talent each year, and has helped the German Live Entertainment Award (LEA) to become a climate-neutral endeavour.
