Governors Ball Unveils 10th Anniversary Lineup: Tame Impala, Missy Elliot, Flume, Vampire Weekend, Stevie Nicks Top The Bill
New York’s Governors Ball Music Festival is celebrating 10 years this year, and it is bringing a slew of big-name artists into Randall’s Island once again.
The lineup includes Tame Impala, which last year headlined the West Coast megafest Coachella; Missy Elliot, who is performing her first NYC headline set in more than ten years; Vampire Weekend, which recently reunited for an album and tour; and Stevie Nicks, who has been touring both as a solo artist and with Fleetwood Mac.
Three-day passes and VIP tickets go on sale Jan. 16 at noon EST.
With many making note of which festivals are carving out space for women on their lineup, Governors Ball has included six women in the top ten artists on its poster. Farther down the line, women appear to be very well represented.
Last year’s Governors Ball was once again affected by adverse weather, as the Sunday program was delayed and the festival grounds were eventually evacuated. That meant missed performances from artists like The Strokes and SZA.
Governors Ball co-founder Jordan Wolowitz, of Founders Entertainment, spoke with Pollstar ahead of the 2018 edition, saying: “The biggest challenge is always weather-related. It’s the one and only thing as festival promoters that’s totally out of our hands. The day that happened was disappointing, but it was because of safety. It wasn’t even due to wind or rain, it was due to lightning risk. That’s when people’s safety is at stake and we don’t want to put the fans’ health and safety at risk and we are always super considerate of that.”
GovBall also announced a new policy in November requiring attendees under 18-years-old to be accompanied by someone 21 or older, along with other operational changes related to water-refill stations, new trash and recycling receptacles, and VIP upgrades.
