Pollstar Live! Preview: Cannabis & Your Event
– Jim Lewi
Red Light Management
Jim Lewi leads cannabis initiatives for Coran Capshaw’s Red Light Ventures/Starr Hill Presents, which includes the world-famous Emerald Cup.
The industry veteran will moderate a discussion about the cultural, legal, artistic and operational prospects of weed at live events, with panelists including Lori Ajax (Chief, Bureau of Cannabis Control), Dustin Moore, (Partner, Axiom Advisors, Inc.), Caroline Phillips (President, The High Street PR & Events) and Another Planet Entertainment COO Steve Welkom.
It all goes down at Thursday, Feb. 6 at Pollstar Live! at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
Pollstar: What key issues will be discussed at your panel?
How to incorporate cannabis sales and consumption into your events…starting with CA and MI (states that currently have cannabis event regulations in place) and what will it look like in the future.

What new trends are you seeing in your corner of the industry either as it relates to your panel or otherwise?
I think the trend is that events want to incorporate cannabis into their events but there are so many hurdles…especially regulations, that it’s difficult to see where things are going. In the not so distant future, every event will be a cannabis event. Probably not concession stands selling joints, but edibles, drinks…things that fit into their current setups.
If a kerfuffle were to break out between panelists and/or audience member what might the issue be over?
I/we wish! The only thing I could see coming from the audience would be public safety issues but the whole panel has that covered with data to support. Well, Lori Ajax may not agree with every event should be a cannabis event.
What are you looking most forward to at this year’s conference?
Sharing cannabis knowledge with the industry.

What was your favorite live performance of the last few years?
Thinking everyone on our panel would say something different. For me, Portugal The Man (had no idea how good they were) and Metallica.
