Sydney-based Asia-Pacific tour promoter, ticketing and data analytics company TEG has expanded with the acquisition of veteran entertainment firm Van Egmond Group.

The move, announced Feb. 24, will see the business renamed TEG Van Egmond.
Under its Los Angeles based representative, Cindy Wilson, former managing director of BASE Entertainment, TEG Van Egmond “will be active in both the North America and UK/Europe for top tier touring opportunities for Australia and South East Asia,” said Dutch-born founder Garry Van Egmond, who is reputed to clinch deals with just a handshake.
Set up 45 years ago in Melbourne, the group has been involved in tours, theatrical event productions, merchandising, marketing and promotion in Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
TEG Geoff Jones said, “Garry has sold well in excess of 30 million tickets across contemporary concerts and theatre productions in the Australasian marketplace and we are delighted to have him and Christo (managing director Christo Van Egmond) on board as part of the TEG family.”
Its biggest achievement was Dire Straits’ Brothers In Arms Tour in 1986, which shifted over 800,000 tix. 250,000 in Sydney alone, and total sales of 1 in 15 to the entire Australian population – something listed in the Guinness Book of Records.
AC/DC’s Black Ice Tour in 2010, co-promoted with Chugg Entertainment, became the fastest-selling tour in Australian history, shifting 520,000 in the first three hours. Its final tally was 750,000 in Australia and New Zealand.
Other notable successes were 1 million for Jesus Christ Superstar in 1992; 420,000 for Harry Potter in Singapore while a Bette Midler visit sold out 72 dates. Other stand-out tours were by Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, INXS, Riverdance, Prince and Dolly Parton.
TEG’s rapid growth in recent years included the acquisition of Australia’s Dainty Corporation and the UK’s MJR as part of its 13 divisions.
