BlackStream Live Enlists Michelle Obama, The Weeknd, Steph Curry, Amanda Gorman For College Signing Day

Obama and soccer star Mia Hamm are among those chosen for the 2021 National Women’s Hall of Fame class announced Monday, March 8, 2021. Former PepsiCo Chief Executive Indra Nooyi and retired Brig. Gen. Rebecca Halstead, the first female commanding general at the strategic level during combat in Iraq, are also included along with several other women. The Women’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 2, 2021.
BlackStream Live will host a pre-recorded broadcast celebration for the Class of 2021 on May 1, starting at 2 p.m. EST/ 11 a.m. PST. 
The event will be broadcast on BetterMakeRoom’s YouTube channel and Blackstream Live’s Twitch channel, and will feature former First Lady Michelle Obama, who started celebrating College Signing Day in 2014 to congratulate high seniors committing to continuing their education. 
The Weeknd, Steph Curry, Amanda Gorman, U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, Conan O’Brien, Ted Allen and more will also be making pre-recorded appearances. Students will also be contributing original content and sharing commitments to their colleges.
“College Signing Day is a chance for us all to drop everything and celebrate the hard work of students all across the country,” Obama said in a statement. “Over the past year, so many of these young people have missed milestones and persevered through remote learning. Yet at the same time, the uncertainty of the pandemic has shown once again how profoundly a college education can protect and transform a young person’s future. So College Signing Day is an opportunity to recognize the unique and incredible achievements of this year’s graduates and urge them on in their journeys to and through higher education.”
The organization Reach Higher has continued organizing College Signing Day since the Obamas left the White House. 
BlackStream Live Network was founded by Shawn Gee and launched in partnership with Twitch in February. It features livestreaming concerts, podcasts, jam sessions, conversations and other content from Black creators.
