Washington D.C. Mayor Announces Full Reopening June 11

The Mayor announced today that a number of positive trends are discernible: COVID-19 testing has become broadly available and is free; the local Contract Trace Force is ramped up; hospital systems are now adapted to the strain of COVID-19 and local authorities are dismantling the Alternate Care Site; and D.C. has fully vaccinated 226,566 and vaccines are available for free, on-demand at locations throughout the district. 

As a result of these positive trends D.C. is removing restrictions on all public and commercial activity except bars, nightclubs and large sports and entertainment venues on May 21. Those specific exceptions will have their respective restrictions removed on June 11. 

D.C. government offices are on schedule to return to a 25% return after May 3, and are set to be at a 50% return by June 7. 

Audrey Schaefer, Communications Director for I.M.P. told Pollstar they are “beyond thrilled,” and can’t wait to return to hosting shows at all of their venues, which include 9:30 Club, Lincoln Theatre, The Anthem, and Merriweather Post Pavilion. 

Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C., is starting to fill its 2021 schedule, with shows from Marc Anthony, Harry Styles, Celine Dion, Maluma, Tame Impala, Kane Brown, Genesis, Andrea Bocelli all on the books, and today’s news will no doubt embolden more tours to push ahead with potential shows.
