HUB International Insurance Managing Director Peter Tempkins Announces Retirement

Peter Tempkins

Peter Tempkins leads the roundtable discussion on “Insurance – Is Yours Right?” at Pollstar Live! 2015 on Feb. 21, 2015.

Peter Tempkins, managing director of HUB International Insurance Services, announced his retirement in an email to friends and colleagues after more than 35 years in the business.

HUB International, one of the largest insurance brokers in the world, offers a variety of services including music tour and festival insurance, entertainment business management, and high-risk live event insurance – making Tempkins one of the live industry’s most important unsung leaders.
“It is with lots of mixed emotions; great joy, excitement, and sadness that I am retiring after 50+ years of working,” Tempkins writes. “I have been fortunate to have spent the last 35 years doing work that has been fun, exciting, and challenging. As the saying goes ‘Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.’ So, I guess I can say I have not worked in 35 years.”
Tempkins attended and participated in Pollstar Live! Over the years, including as a roundtable panelist, and was always happy to give advice and explain the intricacies of event insurance when called upon.
He was also a fixture at Aspen Live, the annual Colorado confab in December.
“One of the highlights of the past 25 years has been the Aspen conference,” Tempkins says in his letter. “The camaraderie, the meals and the conversations have been fantastic. As one of the 4, Andy, Jim, Bob, and me, that have not missed a year, Barbara and I are planning to continue coming to Aspen in December. One of my retirement goals is to get my annual lift ticket down to under $10 per day. Right now, the Epic pass cost $799. Barbara and I are looking forward to finally doing things in my retirement that we have put off “for later.” I, of course, am looking forward to more ski days.
“Looking back on the past 35 years, there are so many memories, mostly good and a little bad. The best part has been meeting and making friends with so many wonderful people and going to all the events over the years. The good, bad, and ugly will be missed.”
Aspen Live organizer Jim Lewi distributed Tempkins’ letter and is one of many who will miss Tempkins, but wish him well.
“For many of us, Peter Tempkins has been a part of our careers for years. For me, it started in the early ‘90s and I haven’t used another entertainment insurance person since,” Lewi says, adding, “So it is with both happiness and a bit of melancholy that I share the attached from Peter. Please join me in wishing Peter an amazing retirement…AND to remind him that it’s never too late to change your mind.”
Tempkins’ new email address is [email protected] and his phone number remains the same.
“Barbara and I will be staying in Nashville but also spending time up in Colorado. Travelling for fun will also be in the future.
“I am looking forward to this next phase of life and what it brings.”
