Green Day, AJR & Louis Tomlinson Cancel Concerts In Response To Russian-Ukrainian War

In addition to canceling his July 6 show at Crocus City Hall in Moscow – which had been rescheduled from April 2020 and June 2021 – Tomlinson nixed his July 4 show at Stereo Plaza in Kyiv, Ukraine. 

“Due to the recent events in Ukraine, I have to sadly announce that my tour shows in Moscow and Kyiv are cancelled until further notice,” the former One Direction member posted on Twitter. “The safety of my fans is my priority and my thoughts go out to the people of Ukraine and all those suffering from this needless war.”

Tomlinson’s world tour launches March 1 at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah. Following gigs along the West Coast in Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, Oakland and Los Angeles, Tomlinson heads to Europe in late March, starting with a March 23 show at Valsheimilið in Reykjavik, Iceland. In May the tour will make its way through South America, in June it’s Mexico and July is Indonesia and Australia. Tomlinson is scheduled to return to the stage in Europe in late August and early September for a handful of Italy performances. 

Tomlinson is touring in support of his debut solo studio album, 2020’s Walls. 

Green Day announced on Sunday that the band was canceling its May 29 concert at Spartak Stadium in Moscow. 

“With heavy hearts, in light of current events we feel it is necessary to cancel our upcoming show in Moscow at Spartak Stadium,” Green Day said in a statement posted on its Instagram stories (and confirmed via Variety). “We are aware that this moment is not about stadium rock shows, it’s much bigger than that.  But we also know that rock and roll is forever and we feel confident there will be a time and a place for us to return in the future. Stay safe.”

After appearing at Innings Festival Florida March 19 and Shaky Knees Music Festival April 29, Green Day is set to bring its “Hella Mega Tour” to Europe in June, starting with a June 1 concert at Wuhlheide in Berlin. European dates are booked through July 2 concert at Paris La Defense Arena. Most dates feature the band’s “Hella Mega” tourmates Weezer and Fall Out Boy, while some gigs just feature Weezer. 

  

The 2021 North American portion of the “Hella Mega Tour” stadium run ranked No. 3 on Pollstar’s Year End Worldwide Tours chart with a gross of $67.3 million.

As for AJR, the band was supposed to play Klub 1930 in Moscow Oct. 22. On Friday, the day after Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine, the trio of brothers announced via Twitter that it was calling off the concert:  “We are sad to announce that we will be cancelling our upcoming show in Russia. Thank you to our Russian fans who oppose their country’s unprovoked and criminal behavior. Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine. At this point, the best thing you can do is share ACCURATE info.” 

AJR’s “The OK Orchestra Tour” kicks off April 28 at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Dallas, with the European leg launching Sept. 26 at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin. The Moscow show was supposed to be the last stop. The last gig is now Oct. 20 at Progresja in Warsaw, Poland.    

The tour is named after AJR’s fourth studio album, which was released in March 2021.

Reports submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice for AJR include an Oct. 1, 2021 show at Daily’s Place Amphitheater in Jacksonville, Fla., that sold 3,817 tickets and grossed $168,183.

As previously reported, Russian rapper Oxxxymiron canceled his run of March headline gigs in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Moscow to protest Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. 

His website’s landing page now simply says “??? ?????,” which translates to “No War.”
